The CIVICS project serves as a platform for young people to be actively involved in their communities. Groups of students will be guided to work around Millennium Development Goals focusing issues like environment, eradication of poverty, women education, education and literacy. Students will plan action projects and respond some of these issues through a process of reflection, dialogue and action.
Teachers will be encouraged to prepare their classes to be community volunteers, engaging them in community mapping and planning community service projects that focuses the identified themes as part of their classroom curriculum. Students and classrooms are encouraged to partner with other social welfare government and non government organizations for effective implementation of the projects.
A special activity running this year in the CIVICS forum will be “Rope of Hope” - a community service project for patients living with life threatening diseases. Contact Anila Sidhu, Pakistan, for details or visit the CIVICS forum to get involved.
